Futsal Is The Base For Football - Asian Football Confederation |
| Thu 04-Feb-2010 23:49 |
AFC Deputy General Secretary Hassan Al Sabah has hailed the increasing importance of futsal in modern day football.
Al Sabah said futsal was the "base" for enhancing one's football skills.
"Futsal is a small side game and requires you to have good individual skills,” he said while inaugurating the AFC Elite Futsal Referee Instructors Course on Wednesday.
“Therefore, I see futsal as a base for football. If you can develop your skills well on the futsal pitch, then it will be easier when it comes to the bigger version of the game," he said.
"Futsal is getting more and more popular now and AFC is also actively promoting this game."
The three-day course will end on Friday. Instructors for the course are Spanish Pedro Galan Nieto and Japanese Yasuhiro Matsuzaki, both are from FIFA.
A total of nine participants are attending the course.

Spain Claim Third Straight UEFA Futsal Title |
| Wed 03-Feb-2010 2:30 |
Spain secured their third UEFA European Futsal Championship in a row, and a fifth title in seven editions, despite a late scare against Portugal in Debrecen.
The holders had netted 23 times in their four games en route to the final, including a 6-1 defeat of Portugal, and once Ortiz and captain Javi Rodríguez had scored before half-time, another success seemed a certainty. Lin increased the lead with four minutes left, but Gonçalo Alves and Joel Queirós gave Portugal hope in their maiden final until Daniel clinched victory with 22 seconds to go. Javi Rodríguez and Daniel end their competitive international careers with four European titles, a tally also achieved by Kike and goalkeeper Luis Amado.

Gold Coast Futsal Claim Craig Foster Futsal Challenge Cup By 16 Goals |
| Thu 28-Jan-2010 11:37 |
Gold Coast Futsal is the inaugural champion of the Craig Foster Futsal Challenge Cup following last Saturday’s splendid event at the Carrara Indoor Sports Stadium, edging out Brisbane Magic Futsal by 16 goals.
Both clubs completed the group matches with 19 points each, four ahead of Futsal North Coast from NSW, but it was the superior goal scoring machine of the Gold Coast sides that won it for them.
Despite missing out on the prize, Brisbane Magic Futsal did pick up three grand final victories with the under 10s, 11s and 12s each collecting the winners medal.
On a scorching hot summer’s day, the crowd’s turned out to see former Socceroo and SBS Television identity Craig Foster open the tournament and watch some great entertaining Futsal from our juniors, while the open men’s teams showed true class in their event.
In 24 matches played 246 goals were scored, an average of just over 10 goals a game. A perfect advertisement for the game.
